DescriptionBack in 2022, I had the pleasure of visiting Lake Como and its exclusive comic art show. A lot of big names were present and with a convention of that size comes the stress, or fear, of missing out. FOMO.That's why I had contacted Black Diamond Comic Art a few months in advance to set up a few commissions with their guests. Jorgé Fornes. Bruno Redondo. And Iban Coello. Unfortunately, only Jorgé's piece was finished. The rest would be shipped later. As you can guess from when I'm posting this, that took a while. In 2023, I did receive a commission. But it wasn't the right one. The wrong costume; and as a big Ben Reilly fan, I'm particular about the costume. Since speaking to Iban directly early 2024, things moved more quickly or at least with more consistent communication. Iban was extremely nice and accomodating. Even now, when having received the commission, he has been asking how things have been. At a show in Paris, we met again and we bounded about fatherhood. He gave me some pointers and we set up that Spider-Carnage commission. Now, this piece is what I had always in mind. I love his sinister symbiote work as much as the next guy, but I wanted to see Iban tackle Ben Reilly's Sensational costume - my favorite in comics. Iban puts Ben in an "in your face" action pose, blasting off his impact webbing (that's what those small web grenades are called). Very much a Spider-Man pose, but equally as much a Ben Reilly version. Iban's love for manga is clearly on display - with all the moving elements and those flying webs - right past your head. The white outline around the figure does wonders, too. For my troubles, he gave me a size upgrade, a signed variant comic and a free Venom sketch. Iban's a great artist and an even greater human being. This was done with pencil, inks and markers on an 11x17 board. Social/Sharing |

I have always been a fan of Coello's work, but his recent work on Venom War, he has taken things to a new level. I can easily say he one of my favorites modern artists working today. This Spider-Man is sick and cover worthy. Congrats.

The best of compliments, cover-worthy, but I do agree! Thanks, Mike. And true - Iban is absolutely up there and will be a household name for a while!

You have bad tastes in costumes but not in artists so that's balancing things out ;p

Oh man SO dynamic! Could easily grace a cover! Love that the impact webbing is being shot at the viewer! Huge get, Killian, congrats!
