DescriptionLegends of the Dark Knight 100-Page Super Spectacular #3 Cover Original Painting (August 2014, though painting was done in 2013). This cover was originally used as the cover for "The Beautiful Ugly" (published in 2013 as part of the digital first Legends of the Dark Knight series), and then reused as the physical cover in 2014 as volume 3 of the larger anthology series. This third volume contains 4 stories: "The Beautiful Ugly", "Break the Mold", "Elements of Crime", "The Echo of Pearls". The painting is done by Jason Shawn Alexander, and it is quite incredible to see in person. He is self-described as an expressionist figurative painter, and this really comes out in this example. The Two Face, besides looking insanely creepy, looks like he is coming off the page with all the dark emotions you could ask for. Bats is in the background, with the cityscape behind him, almost looking puzzled. I love the color palette here, and Shawn's use of collage elements give the painting a 3-d feel in person (which sadly doesn't come out so well in the picture). It is easy to see why this was one of the few digital covers chosen for the physical format. This sucker is massive, coming in at 30" X 40". Oils on paper and stretched canvas. Signed as "JSA" in the lower right corner.Much thanks to Gregg for letting me get this piece from him! Social/Sharing |

Absolutely fabulous, David! Imagine how much bigger it'll be when framed!

Technically it is already framed in a cool float frame (Gregg had it framed when I got it from him). Normally I would undo and frame with a cgc book, but given the size of the painting I think I will leave it as is, as the current frame looks really nice, and the piece is already quite large as it is!

I was reading the description and looking to see the size, given how impressive JSA works in larger formats. In this size, this is like staring in a mirror for the audience, which may have been his intent.

I had not thought about that, but now that you mention it, it very well may have been his intent! Now I need to ask him. :)
