DescriptionI first learned the terribly sad news of the passing of Chadwick Boseman from Eric's post, and I left a comment there, but also wanted to post something here in tribute as well. In a year that's seen so much tragedy, this just seemed like a real gut-punch. To lose someone so young, seemingly in the prime of his life and career, who had inspired so many, is a truly terrible loss. My father was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. After the initial diagnosis, we had to wait over a week for test results to find out if it had spread. That was a terrible week that I spent scared out of my mind. So I can't even imagine how Chadwick and his loved ones managed the past several years to deal with this as it went from Stage 3 to Stage 4, and how truly extraordinary it is that he had made multiple great, physically demanding films at the same time. To think of what he was going through on a physical level (not even counting the mental and emotional stress), and playing James Brown, Jackie Robinson, and of course, the Black Panther. We were incredibly lucky, as my father's cancer had not spread. And he opted to have surgery (which would have been nerve-wracking enough without also having to do it in the time of COVID), and was recently declared cancer-free. It's the best news I've had in an otherwise terrible time. So I'm just so very very sorry that Chadwick and all who cared about him and everyone he touched didn't get the same happy outcome. I loved Black Panther. It was great and inspiring, and even as a white guy gave me immense black pride. I know people always say good things about someone when they pass, but by all accounts, he seemed to be not only a great actor and performer, but one of the genuine Good Guys, on-screen and off. I am truly saddened by the loss, but will continue to enjoy the great work he left behind in the far too short time he was given.Wakanda Forever and Hail To The King. Social/Sharing |

Thank you for this post and for your comment in my gallery. I am so, so, sorry to hear of your father's diagnosis. I still remember the day we got the news about my father. My sister and I worked for the same company, and she got the phone call from our mother. She came running to me with tears running down her face and we just held each other for about a half hour. We told our boss who understandably sent us home. Our dad we sitting on his bed staring at the wall and we just sat with him for the rest of the night. I am so very sorry for what you and your family are going through. Try to keep your hope and courage up. Know that you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you Eric. I'm just so sorry for the terrible pain and suffering you and your family have had to endure, and I certainly understand why you have the Stand Up To Cancer icon as your avatar. Chadwick’s passing was yet another reminder (not that anyone needs a reminder) that for all the technological progress and medical breakthroughs that humans have achieved, we are still so limited and so vulnerable to this terrible affliction. I appreciate your very kind words, and know that unfortunately you appreciate more than most people how this affects those both young and old, as well as their loved ones. I think we all just hope and pray for the day when mankind finally triumphs once and for all over "The Big C". My best likewise to you and yours, and Thank You again.

Great write up and greatly appreciated. Nice to see and know the positive impact we can have on each other, in a REAL way, in this realm of fun and fantasy. Best wishes to you and yours.
