DescriptionOctober 4, 1980 - Thundarr the Barbarian (Animation) Premiered on ABCThundarr The Barbarian holds a special place in my heart. My dad was always working so I always enjoyed the limited time we had together. Dad would take me to this Barber Shop around the corner to get my hair cut on Saturday Mornings. He must have planned our visits around Thundarr The Barbarian, because the show was always on when we got there. The broken moon was always a topic of discussion with the shops proprietor and other customers. We would discuss different ways a broken moon would would effect the Earth. When I saw Dan "Ookla" Panosian Co-Creator of The Original @Drink_and_Draw Social Club working on this I put an offer out to him and he accepted. Dan was even kind enough to add the broken moon for me. What a great guy. If you want to see Dan's genius in real time watch and listen to the J. Scott Campbell episode as the Drink and Draw crew draw their favorite Saturday Morning Cartoon Characters! Enjoy! Social/Sharing |

Dan knocked it out of the park here. Love the rendering and the faces are very appealing. Congrats!

I think watching Thundarr as a kid predisposed me to loving Kirby. Awesome work by Panosian.

Wow! An immortal piece which wonderfully captures the awesomeness of Thundarr! Only made appropriately whole by your wonderful story! Thank you for sharing and congrats on such a wonderful immortalising of your childhood.

This rocks! A classic animated show brought to today exquisitely by Panosian. Love the kind of tight composition with all 3 characters big and bold, plus the title lettering, AND the broken moon - killer image all around! Congrats!

Thundarr! I love that commission, and the story. Big fan of that cartoon myself. I used to plunk myself down every Sat morning to watch. :) Super cool! Congrats

Dan does astounding stuff, he did a Gwen Stacy for me a little while ago. Watching the Drink and Draw youtube show is always a good time.
Thundarr brings good memories back to me too - no channel in my antenna based area carried it, so every time we went to Grandma's on weekends, I could watch Thundarr and Herculoids. I agree with one of the other commenters - it just oozes Kirby, and I think years later that dovetailed into my love of comics. And probably post-apocalyptic disaster movies too!

What an amazing piece! I love the way that Dan's art has evolved. Without much fanfare, he became a first rate cartoonist. This is everything a person could ask for with a commission.

I love this piece! Thundarr holds a special piece in my heart as well. My dad also worked a lot as a carpenter. One time he took me on a side job on a Saturday when I was 13 years old. While he worked on renovating the owner's kitchen they let me watch some cartoons, and as fate would have it I watched Thundarr that day! My dad passed away last year, but I can't help but think of that day whenever I see Thundarr!
