Description

This is a particularly special addition to my collection because of how I came to own it. Tom is one of the few VS System artists that pops by the community page from time to time. That alone is special because this work was done 14 years ago and that kind of dedication to the fans is rare to say the least! Naturally, when Tom posted that he had re-acquired this piece and was taking offers from the VS players, I was interested.

In talking with Tom, I also learned that it had belonged to one of his biggest fans who just passed away of cancer. Before he died, he arranged for Tom to re-acquire his pieces so that he could sell them to other fans who would appreciate them, like myself. I hope displaying the painting will help carry on my kindred collector's spirit in some small way.

From Tom:

"In general they did not tell me anything as far as the composition or setting. They asked for a classic Aquaman painting and pretty much gave me free rein to do what I wanted. As you probably know I am a huge Frank Frazetta and Boris Vallejo fan and wanted to do something with a classic fantasy art feel. I was actually feeling a bit of pressure with this set because I had four cards to do and they were batman, aquaman, Green lantern and firestorm! It was the first time that I got absolute A- list characters to paint in a set, especially from DC comics."

That's certainly how I felt when I got this piece from Tom, Marcus! He shines like a beacon in the deep.
