Description(December 1982) (DC Comics/Kenner Toys) Darkseid was one of Jack Kirby's most important creations of the 1970s and beyond. The pure Kirby pencils of this 1982 oversized (29" x 19") Super Powers "DARKSEID" action figure schematics design make for a stunning example of "The King's" work on one of his most celebrated creations from the later part of his esteemed career. The vast amount of detail Kirby put into this illustration which includes Darkseid's weapons, makes this an unusually exciting piece even for Kirby! When Jack Kirby famously left Marvel Comics Group to come to DC Comics in 1970, he created a vast tapestry he called "The Fourth World." This included Kirby's work on four titles: three new ones included "The New Gods," "The Forever People," and "Mister Miracle." The one existing title was titled: "Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen." Darkseid was the main villain in his interlocking saga. He was first shown in a cameo in "Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #134" (December 1970) and then had his first full appearance in "The Forever People #1" (February/March 1971). Later generations of creators loved Darkseid and unleashed him throughout the DC Universe, where he's gone on to be one of the #1 villains in a similar league as The Joker and Lex Luthor. Darkseid appears regularly in comic books, animated films, video games, and merchandise. Whether you are a fan or not of Zack Snyder's cut of "The Justice League" movie from 2021, Darkseid was an integral part in this motion picture which made him globally known in ways that Jack Kirby likely never envisioned. Jack Kirby is one of the most well-known and revered artists in the history of comic books! He's the co-creator of Captain America & Bucky Barnes, The Fantastic Four, The Incredible Hulk, The Mighty Thor, The Avengers, The X-Men, The Silver Surfer, The New Gods, and of course, Darkseid, not to mention dozens upon dozens of other characters that he created for Marvel and DC d ing the 1960s and 1970s. This oversized graphite artwork has an impressive image area of 29" x 19"! (Jack Kirby: 8/28/1917 to 2/6/1994) Social/Sharing |
