DescriptionI always thought that The Jungle (1906) by Upton Sinclair was a fascinating book. The expose of the meat packing business in Chicago at that time caused a massive change in food safety and worker's rights in the US that still benefits us today. Peter Kuper adapted this into a hard cover graphic novel in 1991, and I found a copy of the book in my local B&N in the early 2000's. I contacted Mr. Kuper and amazingly enough, he still had this DPS that highlights the climax of the story.I found the art in the book fascinating. I am not an art student, but the style seemed to be a mix of art deco, cubist and brutalist, with political messages hidden in the art as well. (The Jungle was definitely socialist.) Peter Kuper is well know for his work in the New Yorker and Mad, and has illustrated Spy vs. Spy for over 20 years. Social/Sharing |

Welcome to the Jungle
We got fun and games
Spread’s got all the inks you want
Honey, Pete knows to paint
We are the novel that can find
Whenever you pack meat
If you got no money, safety
Meat’s got your disease
In Chicago, Upton to the jungle
Watch it bring you Kuper’s, sha-na-na-na-na-na-na, beef, beef
Ooh-ah, I, I wanna pack your meats

It feels like a fine are, cubist Spy vs Spy piece! Fantastic art and colors. Congrats on tracking it down!
