Big and brawny by Big John! Every panel makes them look like peak body building specimens and the Klein smooth brushlines add that action dynamic!

How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way !! Early Buscema work as he is still finding his style after spot assignments on the Avengers. This style continued on in his memorable Sub-Mariner run. Klein was ok here but I would have loved to see Wood over Buscema in this issue. At this point, if I was Stan, I would have moved Buscema to shore up X-Men sales with Giacoia inks while bringing back Don Heck with Wood inks on Avengers. Probably impossible due to the many personality conflicts and arguments internal at Marvel at that time.

I remember loving that book, but it only confirmed for me I had little actual artistic talent! Thanks for these thoughtful comments...

I think Wood would have spotted blacks a bit better than Klein. Don't get me wrong. Klein was an older veteran who knew what he was doing. But Wood was the inking master. I suspect Wally would have spotted a black in the upper right corner of panel 1 to balance the blacks at the lower left. I think he would have eliminated the outline around panel 2. But I think Wood would have been content with Klein's inking in panel 3. Notice how Klein's blacks start at the upper left in panel 3 and lead the eye to the blacks in the Panther. Those blacks lead the eye to the blacks in Hawkeye's headpiece. Finally the eye stops with the blacks in Janet's hair. Balanced blacks leading the eye. But Klein was very much aware of this while he inked and it shows in panel 3.
So all-in-all a terrific page which you should be very proud to own !! Thanks for posting !
