DescriptionFor the past two years, I’ve stopped at Uko Smith’s eye catching booth at SDCC, where he prominently features his beautiful sketch work, splashes and designs mainly of the X-Men. It’s always really great to talk with him and hear about his art. This year I walked away with this beauty. He’s a real talent and I look forward to seeing his work in published books. It sounds like we will ideally see some of his work this next year. I would love to see Marvel get him on a few covers. He captures the characters really well and the color and design is spot on for feeling the nostalgia of this original team lineup. I could see this portrait on the walls of the X Mansion as a dedicated class picture/portrait. Would be fun to see his version on each class/team through the years. Social/Sharing |

Nicely done. Particularly like the way he did Angel's wings.

Really fun with the school uniform look for the team! It's even to scale with the big giant head and hands for Beast.

A fantastic blend of Immonen and Noto's styles in something all Uko's own.

Agreed. But more than just those two, I also see some Stelfreeze, some Hughes, and even a little Sienkiewicz. Love the composition, love the poses, and love the coloring. Absolutely SPECTACULAR piece! If I could have only spent one hour as SDCC and come home with only this piece, I still would have considered it a wildly successful trip. Congratulations buddy!

This is killer, man. Dig the exactness mixed with the...inexactness, if that makes any sense. Just a real organic vibe, and those colors and scratchy lines add to that. Plus I love seeing the original X-Men get play in OA! Congrats!

Now that’s art! I love all the different artistic touches. Very cool. Worthy of a frame.
