Good fun! Isn't that the "Tarzan and the Castaways" original on the wall?

You have sharp eyes, I missed that and considering that it was drawn in 1964 Frank couldn't have used the pic as a photo reference for the Johnny Comet which was published in 1952. That being said, the similarity is remarkable.

But he never used photo reference!! Oh....!
I know this comment was typed with tongue in cheek, but I'll take the bait and remind eveyone that Frazetta took many thousands of photos, and he did in fact use some for art reference. It's amazing how seldom he did, though. This pose looks familiar to me, but I haven't placed it yet. It's similar to his painting "The Lieutenant", which I think he painted in 1990 for the cover for L Ron Hubbard's "Final Blackout". If the pic were from the 50s, I'd wonder if it was for one of the other EC artists. BTW, all of the figures in your very nice JC daily look completely invented to me. I'd be shocked if he used photos for any of those.

Yes, tounge firmly in cheek. I'll admit I used to think photo reference was "cheating" when I was very young, but the reality is, you can do amazing work with photo reference, and it makes you a better artist. Nothing at all wrong with it - and should actually be encouraged. Some people want to romantacize artists like Frazetta or Alex Raymond by purporting that they never used photo reference, when they in fact did (Frazetta probably much less than Raymond). Doesn't change my estimation of them as artists.

I've never viewed the use of photo reference as cheating, but as a valid tool in any great artist's bag of tricks. Frazetta will always be the GOAT.

I read a blog post or something by Stuart Immonen who described the stygma attached to the idea of using photo reference. It's silly. He is a big advocate and it shows in his work. He's great.
