DescriptionFrmo the short-lived series JUSTICE, INC., which Kirby drew in the last days of his DC period. Issue # 3, p.24, October 1975. Inked by Mike Royer, written by Denny O'Neil - was this the only DC Kirby not written by Kirby? It was adapated from a 1930s pulp magazine series of the same name.A somewhat unusual kirby half-splash that focuses more on character design and setting than action (panel 1 is the aftermath of an action scene, and that folded-over body looks might uncomfortable). Was Kirby planning to go into the tobacco business, with his own brand of "King" cigarettes? I know comics paid poorly, but still! I like the design of the villanous "Sodom," and the tilted angle in the splash panel adds dynamism. Also some Dennis O'Neil racial politics commentary in the top two panels. Social/Sharing |

This is Kirby pop art! The designs and the faces pop off the page and serve to bring comic art that moniker by being an aesthetic unto itself. It's as powerful as any of his works during this era and has its own unquestioned style and beauty that no one else in comics can do as well.

That's quite a nice page, in a low key way. To answer your question, there were a few Kirby books with other scripters at the end of Jack's DC tenure in the '70s. His last few issues of Kamandi had a Gerry Conway writer's credit. I believe the Kobra and Richard Dragon books were also dialogued by someone other than Jack. Talk about ending with a whimper!

Nice one, Royer inks are always a plus (and just to add, Joe Simon wrote the first issue of Sandman), congrats!

Nice art !
The Sandman series from 1975 was scripted first by Joe Simon but it's essentially Michael Fleisher who scripted the title (Kirby was penciler only for issue #4 to #6).
