DescriptionI'm a pretty big fan of Ian Bertram's work and I hold him up there as one of the best artists currently making comics. I loved House of Penance and Little Bird, and from early glimpses, Precious Metal is going to be nothing short of fantastic (even though I missed that damn Zoom preview!).When I first saw these 18"x24" portraits on a Felix Unboxing episode, I knew I had to set aside some other pieces I have had in mind and go for one. The question was which one. I think you could argue that there is something to like about every single portrait in the series, but Venom, Wolverine, Hellboy, and nearly every Batman were at the top of my list. I ended up making my final decision based on the character that I thought was the most unique, and that wasn't an easy choice because they all were. Ian's take on this portrait manages to capture Venom from such a wonderful side profile perspective and it oozes that Bertram style from the tongue to the face design of Brock himself. There are those moments in the comics when the symbiote retracts to allow Eddie's face to be seen and that is portrayed perfectly here, but it can also be viewed as the symbiote beginning to envelop Eddie, allowing the full transformation of Venom. Makes for a one of a kind interpretation of Marvel's beloved symbiote. Wall power sized thank you to Felix, Yams, and Ian! When I received the confirmation email from Felix, I'm not gonna lie, there was an exclamatory phrase shouted quite loudly in celebration. Social/Sharing |

Definitely a uniquely cool profile shot of the original symbiote baddie. I can see why you exclaimed after the confirmation e-mail :) Love the teeth surrounding the face, but I think what stood out to me most, was really digging how the area around Eddie's eyes is blacked in, vs the large white symbiote lenses. Cool stuff, Tyler. Congrats!

Thanks KG and fantastic point, there is such a large contrast. Those eyes are black holes.

It's wall power that's much bigger that what we can see scanned and shown. It's true power though comes from the way Bertram made Eddie's head coming out in relation to the rest of the massive power and size of the Symboite.

So true, Eddie's head really helps in defining proportion of the symbiote, and this is quite large in person. The actual size of the drawing is as big as my head, and I have a big fat head! I pulled the tape and drawing size measures around 13"x16".

Incredible piece by Bertram and as others have mentioned - a standout in the recent drop. I love that he went as far as to make Eddie's face busted up and batlle-damaged as well. To me this means the image occurs right as he's summoning the symbiote to save his bacon. Great story-telling for a profile shot and nothing short of what you would expect from Ian.

I keep looking at that gash on the bridge of his nose.

I love Bertram as well. If this is an example of the future for him, I am very excited. The alien nature of this is clearly his focus as it literally dwarfs Eddies humanity as he peaks out from the void; is the monster within or without? Existential dread rendered in beautiful black ink. I missed the drop but this is what I wouldve gone for too. Congrats!

Nothing like getting that confirmation email from Felix after a competitive drop. I loved this series as well and got one of the Jokers. Giant congrats on getting your favourite, I think a few peeps were after this one!

You know there really isn't. The days when the email doesn't come are a different story though, you're just left refreshing that inbox into the void! Congrats on the Joker pick up, I liked the one with the really long cut. Felt lucky on this, a couple of seconds and could have easily gone the other way. Thanks Reba!

We obviously shouldn't compare art as much as we do - especially when we're talking about an artist that only creates masterpieces - but I have to say that this was my personal favorite among the recent Bertram works that came available recently. You have a special portrayal of Venom here from someone that will go down as a generational talent. Congratulations.

That is probably a good practice, but when they are all good ones it is very hard not to. Thanks Kevin, I am so happy to own this piece.
