Description"We...We...could have been friends... Shoulda Woulda Coulda!" Here we see Cankor and Mankor in a double page splash inspired by Frank Miller's memorable DPS in Ronin #1, which Rob Liefeld also paid tribute to in New Mutants #100. I have included a pic of both of those below for fun comparison, along with the Cankor published version which reads "After Liefeld". Very interesting to see Matt's take on this and I think he nails it. He makes this feel his own with the dialogue and the individual panels, apart from the main splash itself. The signature elements that go into Cankor such as the face design and the wires only help reinforce that. For such a legendary original DPS, I feel like his interpretation is successful. I am a huge fan of Matt's work and he can probably do no wrong as far as I'm concerned, but I feel like it's saying something when you are effectively following after Miller and Liefeld. This DPS was not initially published in the original issue of Calamity Of Challenge #2, but was added to the published Ad House trade paperback of Cankor. I actually noticed a couple of really good interior pages that were added to the trade, and I am glad that they were. The more Cankor the better! Sincere thank you to Yo Kuri for this one! And talk about a pack job! This arrived in dare I say, a perfect package, comprised of an amalgam of cardboard and masonite that most collectors would be proud just to have empty. One of the cleaner and aesthetically rectangular packages I have opened in recent memory, which contained the artwork flawlessly secured to the board (wipes tear away). Social/Sharing |

"From Hell's heart, I stab at thee." - Ahab. Now that is how you know a person truly hates someone else. I don't think Hallmark covers this sentiment. Agreed, Allison really did a nice job with this homage, and in fitting it into his larger story. And I dig the starred mask effect. Cool score. Congrats!

Thanks Mike! Do I know that feeling. I always keep a look out for his pages, so there may be some friendly competition. As long as we don't bid each other up to $3.7 million we should be ok.

There are a couple pieces of comic OA I've craved that went over the million dollar mark, but so far the prices on Allson's work have been extremely reasonable. Truth is that my introduction to this great artist was due to your CAF gallery, so thanks for posting so many of your treasures! No good deed goes unpunished, so I'll apologize in advance if I ever outbid you on something of his, but I will rationalize my bad behavior by reminding myself that you own so many terrific examples of his work already.

You know they really are. There are many of his pieces that are completely reasonable. Awesome! and that is another fantastic part about this site and community. I am still finding new artists through CAF and I thought that I had heard of most, but there are so many cool artists out there. Haha That is the way of the road and thank you!!! I hope to see a Cankor piece in your gallery in the future and I will still like and comment on it, knowing deep inside that it could have been mine!

It is by far the better homage even with the teeth grinding in the torso. The thrust attack may not be as cinematic as swinging, but is far more effective in a comics flat visual medium.
