Description

Another painting we've had for awhile which we're reframing. This one is a pulp cover by H.C. Murphy, and appeared on the cover of Action Stories, September 1926, illustrating Kenneth Gilbert's "The Menace of Mastodon Valley."

Pretty common trope back then with the native girl protecting the male stranger from the rest of her tribe. I wouldn't be surprised if the stranger somehow saves the tribe from his people looking for him and how the rest plays out in a pulp fantasy story. Such is the power of these paintings that tell stories with a single image.
