Description

An iconic era in X-Men, the early 90’s had a launch of this new X-Men series (created by Jim Lee and Chris Claremont), featuring the Blue Team (Cyclops, Wolverine, Rogue, Psylocke, Beast, Gambit and Jubilee). Jim Lee had a star team of artists to work with on this new run: Scott Williams as his inker, Joe Rosas as his colorist and Tom Orzechowski as his letterer.

This page features the color guide from Joe Rosas used in the #2 issue, marker on a printed piece of Lee/Williams art. Compared to the final published color, it’s a beautiful match, other than some ground pieces going greener (one piece more pinker/brown) and Rogue’s jacket becoming less less warm and closer to her well known brown jacket.

For me it’s X-Tremely X-Citing to have a production art piece so close to the start of this historic era. Getting Joe Rosas’s hand drawn color guide art from this issue is a great addition to my X collection. This page featuring so many of my favorite characters (Rogue and Psylocke), in a massive battle makes it even that much better. I’m obsessed with the color and look of this particular art page and to have some sort of piece from it satisfies the desire. Psylocke especially on this page is monumental and having her use her psychic knife on Magneto, with Rogue in flight is pure comic fandom joy!
