Jesse Lonergan - Batman Sketch Cover Commission

Couldn’t be more excited to add this beautiful piece to my collection. I’ve been a fan of Jesse’s work ever since I was introduced to him with his Eisner-winning one-shot, Hedra. Not only do I love how he utilizes 60-panel grids to spark his creativity, but I also love how he often will pack an entire scene into one overarching, interactive layout. That’s why I had to snag this Batman sketch cover—Jesse’s Gorham looks great with Batman jumping down into his batmobile, speeding into the foreground before a nice closeup. He did all that on 6.5x10.25” of space! Also, props to Jesse for taking a sketch cover that I thought was the LEAST artist friendly and totally making it work. Seriously, when I saw them announce the bat-laden sketch cover, I laughed because I figured it was unusable. Lastly, Jesse donated this piece to Four Color Fantasies (LCS) as part of their charity auction, so my money also went to a good cause!

Really lovely. Glad to see he used the 60 panel grid for a sketch cover! Rad!!!

Great design sense of Lonergan's grid storytelling at play. He really could have kept this design to himself for a future assignment, but it's so cool that he can't help but deploy it here!
