Description

Beautiful full page splash by Bernie Wrightson and Kevin Nowlan.

"Splash" is a story that was commissioned by Archie Goodwin in the 1990s to be published in Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight. It was never published in the '90s and sat around in the DC offices until 2010 when it was finally released in "Batman: Hidden Treasures."

Every page in this story is a full page splash with the text in the side margin. Beautiful book plate style splashes by Bernie Wrightson on large, oversized pages.

The "Sewer Killer" has left six bodies strangled, dead, and in the sewers. When the Batman goes to the sewers to investigate, he finds Solomon Grundy and a fight ensues. But, is Grundy really the "Sewer Killer?"

Wrightson and Nowlan make for one helluva an artist team-up in this cityscape scene of Gotham to set the scene for a unique type of Batman story/release from DC. Reminds me a little of when I used to live near Central Park West on the Upper West Side and I'd grab a bench and a trade paperback to enjoy some reading when the weather started getting warmer! congrats on adding another example to your stellar Bernie Batman lineup!

Been seeing these pages pop up on Heritage recently. I always track them when they pop up but so far have resisted bidding. Might be time to rethink that.

Great combo of creators! Nowlan on Wrightson is a treat to behold! Yeah it deserves to be see as an illustration with prose next to it as it tells a story and sets the mood that Marz's words couldn't convey.
