DescriptionVery happy to pick this up during the latest Comic Art Con (thanks Shawn!). I was a big fan of Peter David's run on the Hulk and have been looking for a nice example from each of the major artists from the period. This is signed by Peter David and I really like this page as it showcases his storytelling while also featuring some nice Joe Fixit Hulk images courtesy of Jeff Purves. On this page, Margo (later Rick Jones's wife) breaks up with the Hulk after mistakenly thinking he's killed Glorian. This was from the brief period where classic Hulk artist Herb Trimpe was inking the series. A lot of inkers didn't gel well with Purves, but I think this combo generally worked. Too bad Al Williamson wasn't available though, as he probably would have done an amazing job! Social/Sharing |

Trimpe inks on another artist isn't seen too often. Those backgrounds and tight lines on the figures aren't things you'd normally see if he inked his own work. Rare example.

This page really showcases the edge of the Joe Fixit era--great stuff! And I had no idea that some of these issues were inked by Trimpe, I agree there's a crispness to the inks here that really worked on Purves!

Thanks! I missed out on the bargain priced Gary Frank page, but you can't win them all.

Yeah if the winner of the Gary Frank Hulk page is reading this I would be glad to buy it from them for more than twice what they paid :)

Give him hell, Marlo! Ah, Purves/David Mr Fixit. What a great Hulk arc. Loved all those mob stories in Vegas, and the great work they did together. Sweet score here. Congrats!

You're welcome, Ted. I'm glad it found a good home. Done deal within 2 minutes of the show opening.

Fantastic page! I was too busy hemming and hawing and we all know that's detrimental in this hobby. Congrats!

Though the Purves run was short and he left comics after, it was still so memorable. Great page here. Love his uniquely sytlized take on Joe Fixit. Congrats!

I've never seen Purves' work before. His composition and line work, with Trimpe's inks, are fantastic! I like this more than McFarlane's Hulk and earlier Keown work on the book. Great page. Solid story-telling. Thanks for sharing!

You should check out his Hulk issues which included good writing by Peter David. For whatever reason, I don't think Purves drew any other comics apart from Hulk.
