DescriptionW00t! A high voltage burst of Coipel/Morales goodness from an unforgettable issue of the Straczynski run!One of the -many- enjoyable elements of this run was just how subtle and dangerous Loki was: a poisoned blade, so sharp you never feel it slipping between your ribs. And, true to form, Loki has spent multiple issues gently “massaging” the situation to lead Thor to this point; unknowingly battling his own grandfather, Bor, in a duel to the death. As you might imagine, it’s quite the lift for poor Thor. Lucky for us, Olivier and Mark deliver the high octane, high-contrast goods, allowing stark black and white to overwrite a rich “shades of grey” situation. Thor’s power -and- desperation are both evident here, and Bor’s windup in the last panel (to deliver the killing blow) is electric enough to raise the hairs on the back of your neck. The page stands strong because of Olivier’s sense of scene and staging, and it sings because of Mark’s fantastic inking and understanding of dramatic lighting. If that’s not operatic, I don’t know what is. This is, quite officially, “a very fine how-do-you-do”. Sincere and heartfelt thanks don’t begin to cover it, Simon! Thank you! Social/Sharing |

W00t indeed! Our fallen hero rising to face the wicked blade brings a tingle to my spine! Congrats on an epic page!

Thanks a lot!
I'm sure glad Loki,
To be where he can scheme
Straczynski’s friend of mine.
How've I been droolin'?
How've I been droolin'?
If you really want to know the W00t,
I'm doin' fine!
Shown between
Morales inks I know,
Lead story to this point
The best was Thor panels
Tension an' action,
Loki Odinson,
One by one they come,
An' one by one to dreamland they go.
How's it done?
You ask me, how's it done?
I got Olivier
Who taught me all I need to know.
Sure feels good to have him as penciller,
Hear his voice so soft and low:
"Your grandpa, big Bor
You must remember
Stand up and fight until you hear Coipel,
Stand toe to toe,
Trade blow for blow,
Keep punching ‘til you make your thunder tell
Show the crowd hammer throw!
Until emptied ink well,
That final bell,
Stand up and fight like hell!"

I knew as soon as Yoda told him to go into that tree there was going to be problems.

OMG you must be stopped! Coipel is on the Mount Rushmore of Thor artists and this page very clearly shows us why. Adding a Coipel page is a coup for any collector but one of this caliber is truly something special.

So darn good! Coipel's Thor run was one of the books I picked up when I got back into comics and I've been collecting Thor ever since! Huge congrats!

Great stuff! I especially love the first panel. It immediately reminded me of a certain Superman image in a certain panel of an Action Comics Annual page I recently acquired. Really superb inking, too!

OMG! What a great Thor page from Olivier Coipel and Mark Morales! Copiel really shows off his skill on this page with the opening panel of Thor, tired from battle, but picking himself up again. Then cut to a tight close up of Thor's face as he looks up with a grimace and lightning signals his anger...Then cut to the final panel as his opponent, hidden in shadow, steps forward. The whole story is told beautifully by Coipel's strong layouts. Then add to that Morales' phenomenal inks and you have a page that just rocks! Truly great pick-up, congrats!

Cue the dueling heavy metal guitars. This page is so cool. Could you get a better Thor page, with the lightning, the great stare down panels, and you can feel the battle about to go to 11. KRAKA-sweet!

SO rad, man. Uber cinematic. The proverbial calm before the storm. Love how determined Thor looks here, though clearly not his best day. Zooming in from panel 1 to 2 with a crackle of thunder in the background in the latter. Then...Bor. Mostly silhouetted. Cinematic, indeed! Love it, man. And from annniversary issue #600! Big congrats on a huge get!
