DescriptionThis original artwork and information about it were lost over 58 years, now found!Charles M. Schulz Museum didn't have any records about this artwork, so it was very nice to share with them what I found; the artwork and its provenance. This Peanuts daily was published in newspapers on 5 March 1962 featuring Lucy and Linus, having very rare appearance with eye glasses. He wore the glasses only a few months during the strip's history. But then Schulz finally removed the glasses, as he couldn’t get enough expression in the character’s eyes with the lenses in the way. Next time this same daily was printed in "You Can't Win, Charlie Brown" book, in August 1962. And following time in 1969 in Peanuts Cook Book (and its later editions), next to Lucy's cinnamon toast recipe. Both prints are next to the original in the photo attached here, to give an idea of how huge those Schulz' Peanuts originals are! The provenance of the artwork. Charles M. Schulz dedicated this artwork for the British actor Anna Quale (1932-2019; her photo next to the original), which happened in 10/1962 ... autumn 1963, when she was playing on Broadway in the original production of "Stop the World – I Want to Get Off". Schulz' dedication is on the 3rd panel, a very cleverly selected place... signed next to singed toast! ;-) Then later, at the end of 2020, this artwork appeared for sale in an auction, and I was lucky to win it. Felt also very lucky when a courier brought a 16kg tailor-made wooden box, just a few days before 1.1.2021; shipped from the UK... This is now the 2nd Charles M. Schulz' original Peanuts daily in Finland, there are few in Sweden, but none in Norway and Denmark, next is found from Germany. If you want to listen to a very nice interview from that era, check this out! It is done in October 1962 when 2 reporters interviewed Mr. Schulz in his Marin County home (30min), known as "Happiness is hearing an intellectual laugh!" http://www.kpfahistory.info/dandl/peanuts.mp3 Social/Sharing |

Outstanding piece, and yes, the Linus "glasses" pieces are every bet as rare as you indicate, I too am the honored owner of one such piece. Congrats to you, a real gem!

Ahhh, I remember this strip well and when we were children we would often quote the punchline between us in the family. That background info is out of sight. Thank you for sharing.
