In those two issues he beautifully and eloquently showed the importance of Superman to the world and he set an excellent tone for his take on Clark. The newspaper article by Clark Kent chronicling the life of a man named Edgar Waters that Johnson uses to frame the issue is beautifully written and captures why Clark gives hope even when he is not wearing the cape. Superman is a character who has always meant so much to me. He is a helper, who radiates kindness, and truly is the first superhero. The first comic I ever received from my mom was a “DC Blue Ribbon Digest of Superman vs. The Aliens”. Christopher Reeves performance as Superman and Clark Kent left an indelible impression with me as child. The Kenner “Super Powers” Superman action figure was played with for endless hours allowing me to save the day many times over. I was around for the “Death”, “The Reign of”, and the “Return of Superman”. I saw him with long hair, electric powers, with capes and no capes. Even saw his “Secret Identity”, as an “All-Star”, his “Birthright”, through “For All Seasons” all the way to “Kingdom Come”. There was even the time I saw him sport an armored, collared, costume for a while. He is a character who brings me such joy and comfort. Whose unapologetic kindness and heroism exemplify what comic character can do. “Future State” was a fun event that took place over two months as DC reset it status quo, post- “Death Metal” but prior to “Infinite Frontier”. Originally meant to be a new status quo “5G” which was going to be an entirely new generation of heroes’ post Bruce Wayne, Clark Kent, and Diana Prince. Instead “Future State” showed us what could happen in the “Infinite Frontier”. I love Mikel Janin’s art since “Grayson” his style and storytelling are just incredible he captures both the epic gladiatorial combat of War World and the quiet moments of Smallville. I also want to point out that for “Future State Superman: Our Worlds at War” Janin’s design for an older gladiator Superman is amazing. I love the Edgar Rice Burroughs John Carter vibe. When I bought this piece, it was described as the following. “11 x 17 - fine art monoprint of the final production artwork The artwork offered here consists of a unique (1/1) original fine art print of the final production file for each published page. The artwork is annotated by hand and is signed by Mikel Janin on the back of the page and accompanied by a dual-signed Certificate of Authenticity. Both artwork and COA also bear tamper-proof holograms with matching serial numbers to further establish authenticity and uniqueness of each piece. “ This is one of my first monoprints, I know they are not for every collector and I am still figuring out how I feel about them, but I bought it because I loved this issue and I wanted to support Mikel’s amazing art.
