DescriptionWhen it comes to commissions, I try to get something “familiar” but not quite a full recreation of a piece. In this instance I asked Tom Grummett to do a slightly “one minute before” type deal with the iconic Adventures of Superman 505 holographic cover celebrating the return of the one true Superman (you know, after he caught a minor case of death). I asked for a happy Superman standing on the Daily Planet Globe amidst fireworks (which were the holographic images on the original cover). Once it was completed, the next step was to send it off to the other half of one of my favorite penciller/inker duos, Doug Hazelwood. I love when a commission feels like it was (or could be) created from the era I am trying to honor and revisit. This one absolutely does that!Social/Sharing |

They really are magic together! Really taps into that strong nostalgic connection to these stories and that era!

Beautiful commission. Love how Doug inked the fireworks, and the hair.

In person especially, the fireworks really seem to pop off the page to give it a three dimensional look. No need for holographic gimmicks here!

Great stuff, nice homage to the past! I really love Grummett's art, I gotta start picking up some pages by him.

It's a lost art, no one seems to be showcasing their holographing skills these days. I have to wait for the right one, can't just send it off to any average Joe Schmoe working on holographic commissons!

Exactly! That was my goal for this one, a happy, joyous Supes that exudes that hopefulness! A true celebration of his inevitable, yet no less impactful, return!!
