DescriptionThis commission is based off a proposed, but ultimately not chosen, cover layout to a collected edition for The Death and Return of Superman. Dan had shared the original layout sketch online a few years ago so when the opportunity arose to commission him ahead of his appearance at OAX, this is the route I went. A fully fleshed out version of that layout. It was such a strong layout that represents the death and return so well, it was begging to be fully brought to life!Having Superman as a silhouette both represents his death as well as provides context to the four replacement Supermen shown as they were operating in his shadow upon their arrival to Metropolis. Dan also added the torn cape flag, not in the original sketch, which further connects the chapters of this saga. I picked up this beauty at OAX and then sent it off to be inked by the other half of the fan favorite creative duo, Brett Breeding. I simply love the results that come with years of working together. Brett instinctively knows where to enhance and fine tune Dan’s pencils to create an image rest for print. I am thrilled with the outcome here and this is such a wonderful addition to my collection! A shame this wasn't used! I feel like it perfectly represents this era of Supes. Congrats!

So awesome! It fullfiulls the promise of the original concept! It has each of the four doing what they do best. Cocky Superboy maybe front and center, but my favorite is Steel!

It's all original too! Hand drawn! I have a feeling you'd love Steel, go back and check out his debut and you will be a lifelong fan!

Cool idea to have the original art team revisit this concept, and agreed that the tattered cape flag helps tie everything together. Congrats!
