Description

From what I can deduce this is by Nestor Redondo's brother Frank. It was sold to me as a Herb Trimpe piece. It's signed with only the last name of Redondo. Doesn't look like Nestor's work to me. Online searches served up mixed results. If anyone has more info please drop me a line.

That said, I acquired it not because of who might have drawn it, but because I love the retro sci-fi vibe. Sweet composition with lots of depth & dimension. This is from the Unknown Worlds of Science Fiction Special. I'm a big fan of those old Marvel black & white magazines as well as Bruce Jones' writing so added appeal there. Happy to add it to the collection.

If it's signed Red-A-ndo, then it's neither Nestor nor his brother.  Since their last name is spelled with an "O".  As in RedOndo.

According to the GCD, Unknown Worlds of Science Fiction Giant-Size #1 was published in 1976.  Preservation of the Species was a 13-page story written by Bruce Jones with pencils and inks by Ruben Yandoc.  Redondo is not credited among any of the artists listed for the issue (Rick Bryant, Vincente Alcazar, Mike Kaluta, Jess Jodloman, Alex Nino, Archie Goodwin, and John Buscema).

Yeah. It's crazy. I saw all of that, and decided it was Yandoc. Then I got the actual magazine which credits Jones & Redondo along the bottom of this page. Just now, I looked at some Yandoc work again, an artist I'd never even heard of. The figures & hand drawn title look similar to a piece here on CAF so it's probably him. Like I say, I bought this one purely on digging the image so that works out regardless :)

Well, one thing we both agree on is that it looks nothing like Redondo.  I have no idea about his brother Frank, since I've never heard of him.  But at least when you Google Yandoc, he does come up as a comic artist.  If I were a betting man, I'd put my money on Yandoc.  Especially since you have the GCD backing you up.

It seems GCD is incorrect. The story is credited to "Redondo" in the published issue: https://2.bp.blogspot.com/0atyD3P9CsMZvsuFcKkEMecRFlhsDefJmfOxoWAvKEGTCB5mDB2VR2-ZKm9_psf0kAjwGKvF0jSl=s1600
