Description

This is the cover to the 2nd issue of the Abyss of Time storyline, where Agent Howards is transported back to Prehistoric times and acquires unnatural fighting skills (and fervour) as well as his Hyperborean blade.

I loved Harren's work on the series and Howards became one of my favourite Mignolaverse characters.

Collector's tale of regret: When I first started collecting original Art I'd seen this cover for sale and put it in my "stuff I want" bookmarks. I want way more than I can afford, so this is a set of bookmarks I regular revisit to ummm and awww over what I should squeeze my wallet for next. During one of those revisits I saw this cover switched to "on hold". That happens a lot and doesn't normally phase me too much but this was the first instance where I really felt gutted that I'd missed out. Thankfully, in a random browsing session I saw that it had come off being "on hold" and was back on sale... so I jumped on it immediately. Zero regrets. The cover is fantastic.

It's way more obvious in person but I love how he managed to get a rich range of surface textures into the page. Really feels like an Artist confidently experimenting with techniques.

Fascinatingly grotesque. A deep study in all the things we don't like seeing out of fear now fully explored and put on a cover. Dark feelings of wet to cold textures that are otherworldly to haunt your dreams.
