DescriptionMy first John Cassaday piece! I am absolutely chuffed to add a lovely example of how well he draws faces and captures emotions on the page (with a healthy (?) dollop of psychological drama thrown in for good measure). I really like the motion in panel 4, with Danger’s locks flying forwards as if to convey a sudden lunge towards Xavier (with a last second halt) in an attempt to get him to flinch. The page is also topped off by one of Mr. Cassaday’s “signature moves” in the last two panels: the patented Cassaday zoom-in, with the black background behind the subject.Beautiful Laura Martin colors on the published page, nicely complimenting the gorgeous black and white linework. So much fun to look at. Thank you, Albert Moy! Social/Sharing |

Despite not much happening, this is a beautiful and meaningful page. Congratulations.

Thanks, Peter! An action page would have been cool, too, but SOMEONE seems to have bought all those back in the day... ;) Your Cassaday AXM collection is the gold standard, but I'm grateful to have a nice example to show here. Thanks, Peter!

Jealous! Loved these issues. Danger came in like a full metal calamity ready to annihilate all! Congrats.

Fair wages Chuck. Don't take the Danger Room for granted anymore. It's Cassaday's page design and that use of shadows that set him apart from his contemporaries during this run.

How much do you pay your phone or pc, Marcus? Whens the last time you cuddled them, gave them a pat or said what a valuable addition they are to your life? Watch out, you may be in Danger of reprisal. Lol.

THIS is the page that silently asserts the deadly skills of the artist. You don't need stuff. You don't need steroid bods. Love it.

You don't need stuff? Okay. Split your stuff (artwork) three ways. Myself, Marcus and Jason will take it off your hands.

Maybe you meant Jason does not need stuff, or everyone on the site doesn't? You cunning dog! Have we to send it all to you?

Thanks, M L - that is PERFECTLY put, and I am in 100% agreement. I was struck by the "simplicity" of this page (maybe the wrong word... "purity"?) and how much it moved me - how beautiful I thought it was despite - nay, BECAUSE of - the lack of "stuff and steroids". Just beautiful work that showcased an artist and captured a moment. Thanks, M L (and all)!

Thanks, Peter. I think what M L was talking about was the unclutteted nature of page itself; the ARTWORK doesn't need more "stuff" or overbuffed bodies to make this page work as it does. The talents of the artist come to the fore on this page; indeed, it's impact revolves around them. I would think moments like this (and how John can execute them) would be why Joss Whedon specifically asked to work with John Cassaday on this book. Thanks for your comments, all!

You will not be saying that when you wake up one night, after hearing the soft sound of stealtily moving limbs and see a creepy, mustached Spider-Man masked figure, scuttling out of your home, pulling the page behind its retreating figure. No one will believe you either!

Speaking as someone who has TONS of quiet pages from the Grummett/Vey New Titans run, I can vouch for the fact that there is plenty of enjoyment that can be found on pages without the "tits and tights". Lovely example right here!

A poignant character who arrived after my collecting days. Embodying the Danger Room... masterstroke art for a masterstroke idea.

This was one of the best pages left...I had it targeted for 2022. Very well chosen, excellent example of Cassaday's craft.

Thanks, Carlo. This one had been "in the cart" for a very, very long time, and I finally caught myself saying, "Man, if I don't move on this, Carlo's going to beat me to it!" :) Happy to share it on the weekends. And I agree - just a really solid example of Cassaday doing what Cassaday does. I feel very fortunate to have ended up with it. Thanks again, Carlo (and all)!

Great talking heads page by an artist who is indeed very good at portraying emotions. Xavier's really shine here.

I dig how this graduates from light to dark. Good grab!

Ooh, love it. Great storytelling moment from one of my favorite comic runs ever. Expressions are there, even with the "expressionless" Cerebra. You can see it all in the faces, and the dialogue is so good here. I really like how it moves form light in the background in panels 1 to 4 to dark in the last 2 panels. Great get, Jason. Congrats!

Thank you, K! I love this run, too. All the faces and expressions are exactly what drew me to the page, and those two last dark panels are so striking, so Cassaday, that it makes my toes twitch (John had even used a similar image of panel 5 for his cover to Astonishing X-Men #10, so it's really neat to have a reprise of that here). Always appreciate the comments, K (and all) - thank you!

In the original, the last two panels have great impact as he turns the background black and moves the camera closer. The colorist takes away the visual crescendo in the published version by making the preceding panels so dark. Lovely page. Thanks for sharing the published version. Very interesting!

Danger, Professor X! Danger! (I just like all the "levels" of using that quote :)) Man, Cassaday's lines are so crisp and sharp, I feel like they could cut you. And you need zero dialogue or explanation to understand this page. This one has Cassaday DNA. I love those kinds of pages, where the artist almost imbues it with their essence. Great score, Jason. Big congrats!

Thanks, J H - that is the perfect summary of this page (and exactly what drew me to it): the Cassaday DNA infused into it. Other artists could also have pulled off a great version of this scene, but this version is exactly the Cassaday version (which is a silly thing to type "out loud", but I think you know what I mean). It feels like he was 'in the zone' here, and it's a very "true" page. Thank you, as always, J H (and all) for your great comment.
