DescriptionOk… it’s 1988 .. I am 12 years old and love comics and the X-men. I go into the comic store and there is a new wolverine book…. Meltdown, of course I want it , Havok and Wolverine! I get home open it up and what???? What am I looking at??? Why do they look like this??? Welcome to my first exposure to “Fine Art” lol . Now over the years I have learned to absolutely love this series . Not only for the story and the art but also for how groundbreaking it was back then to take two very mainstream characters and present them like this. A page from this story has been on my OA wish list since I started collecting and when I saw this one show up at auction I remembered it well, Havok and Wolverine waking up hungover with little recollection of the night before … and BLAM! LolThe Muth pages are my preference too so being able to get a partial wolvie shot on a Muth page works well for me! Social/Sharing |

Painted art was definitely prestige in the 80's. Muth was one of the few who were able to get it done with this pioneering work.

Oooh I remember this page being up for auction, was so tempted but had other things on my mind. Congrats and very glad to see it on here. Love this style and a fun adventure for both characters.

I have a similar story to yours, except I don't have the page!!! Congrats on getting this, good pages like this one from the series are so hard to come by.

Watercolor is hands down my favorite color medium. There's just something about the tone and texture of a watercolor piece that really appeals to me. I think Jay had a lot to do with that, since it pretty much started after I discovered his Dracula and Moonshadow books almost 40 years ago. It wasn't long after, that I discovered Kent Williams (who has since become a friend). I think you and I were proably like most comic readers back then. We saw this book and didn't necessarily make the immediate connection to fine art. We thought it was just weird looking, but at the same time, oddly fascinating. A deeper appreciation and understanding would come later. I had plenty of chances to buy pages from this series. One of my biggest collecting regrets is that I didn't. This is a BEAUTIFUL page! Congratulations on being smarter than I was.
