DescriptionThis is the second of three sequential pages in my collection from the first chapter of Jaime Hernandez’s “Chester Square” storyline in Love and Rockets.I fell in love with panels 3, 4, and 6 upon first reading this issue and was lucky to pick up a page recently to complement my page from #44 that spotlights Penny Century. Does anyone design and place black on a page better than Jaime? Note: That's more of a rhetorical question but I'm just so enamored with how this page is designed and complements the story beats in every panel. Social/Sharing |

Each panel has a wonderful balance of black and white. The details are only placed where they matter and man, do they matter. The joys and sadness on the page speaks to the audience in an intimate and natural manner that takes its time for us to relate to.

Just one of those happy accidents when a few pieces came together quickly.

Beautiful page! The flow is flawless and those panels draw you right in (no pun intended).

I haven't. I'm guessing there's a girl mechanic on the show who is often required to demonstrate her mechanic chops? May have to check it out just for the indirect connection with L&R.

Mechanic skills with Penny Century looks. It's a potent combo!

Wigwam Bam vs Chester Square. Has always been a tough call between the two. Keep going back & forth, but this page certainly makes a good case for the latter. Achingly beautiful.

Yeah, I have a tough time choosing between the two. When I was younger? Wigwam Bam. Now? Probably Chester Square, with WWB serving as a bridge between the early L&R and the more mature storyteling we see in late Vol. 1 L&R and future volumes.

In a way, i think The Love Bunglers, which is one of my favorite comic of the past decade, simply couldn't have happened without Chester Square. Maybe Wig Wam Bam is the apex of something that started with Mechanics, and Chester Square inittiated a new era that culminated in the early 2010s. The fact that these two storylines followed each other so closely is mind boggling. Anyway, the example you have in your collection are so precisely curated, a joy to behold.
