DescriptionEveryone has their own “ah ha” moment or catalyst that sparked their love for the genre/hobby. Here’s mine:I vividly remember my first experience with comics. I was maybe five or six years old when my older brother showed me a stack of tattered comics, curated from the magazine racks at CVS, Genovese, and Caldor. I’d spend hours looking at all the art AKA “pictures” in those books. That’s the first time I caught a glimpse of Tim Sale’s art…in a Halloween special for “Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight”. I remember being so captivated…frankly scared of his version of Scarecrow, and those sinister smiling pumpkins. It was nothing like the other books in my brother’s collection. It seemed that every time I looked at it, I saw something in a panel I never saw before. At that point, I could barely read a full sentence. English wasn’t my first language, and I was in my second year in ESL. I would use “reading time” to look at the pictures in my favorite comics, and make up my own dialogue and story in my mind. I don’t remember the exact details of what led to it (it was 25ish years ago), but my teacher suggested that I use those comics to help strengthen my reading ability in place of the books in the class. Looking back, it definitely was not age appropriate...or school appropriate, but I think we read that one Halloween Special maybe 30 times. I didn’t really understand what I was reading, nor all the words, but it was enough to get me out of ESL. As I've gotten older, I’ve tried to follow all of Tim Sale’s work. I make it a point to reread “Batman: The Long Halloween” and “Batman: Dark Victory” at least once a year, as those are my two favorite. Occasionally I’ll throw in a re-read of “Spider-Man Blue” or “DD Yellow”, and I try and pick up variant covers as they cross my path. Don’t get me wrong…I love the storylines too…but it was the art that originally captivated me and developed my interest for this genre. Every time I look at any of his batman related art, I have a nostalgia trip back in time to the reading rug at P.S 33. Now onto the piece of art: I never thought I would own a DPS from “The Long Halloween”, especially one so focused on Batman. This wouldn’t be possible without a good word from my good friend, RD. He knew how big of a Tim Sale fan I was, and I can’t help but think that I was only offered this piece based on his recommendation. He exemplifies the best this hobby has to offer. I also want to thank Tatiana, who worked on behalf of the private collector to sell this piece. She truly is a steward for art, helping collectors find their “forever pieces”. I can say with 100% certainty that this piece, along with every other Tim Sale piece I own, will never leave my collection. Social/Sharing |

Don't read as much DC compared to Marvel but as a big fan of DPS's, this is a spectacular page! The fact that I really enjoyed The Long Halloween doesn't hurt either. Wonderful journey to find it's way home, congrats!

Yes Tim Sale is a great artist, and it really showed in the Long Halloween. But what a double page splash you managed to obtain. Fantastic. Congrats.

Stunning DPS from Tim Sale's Batman: the Long Halloween. I love this confrontation between Batman and The Calendar Man. Standing toe to toe, with only a pane of glass between them, the two enemies exchange stares of hatred. Gorgeous inks with thick spot blacks on the Calendar Man's back and arms and on Batman's face. The tension in the scene is palpable. Fantastic pick-up, congrats!
