DescriptionWelcome back to Shemp's Gallery. Where we showcase a new piece every Sunday.I love house ads! The first house ad I ever bought was a Graham Nolan Hawkworld piece. After the success of Tim Truman's Hawkworld mini series, Nolan was chosen to pencil the new Hawkworld monthly that was to debut. At the time I couldn't find a Nolan Hawkworld cover so when Tom Fleming put up the house ad for sale, I knew i had to buy it. Then came my best two pieces, the two Bart Sears JLE house ads. I bought those from Ruben DaCollector many years ago. After that it sort of just snowballed. I was surprised, that I had enough unposted house ads to make it one of my monthly themes. You can see most of the house ads in Specialty Art Gallery I. From 1991 following the success of the Books of Magic mini series comes this terrific Mister E house ad by John K Snyder III. Mister E along with the Phantom Stranger, Doc Occult and John Constantine was part of the Trenchcoat Brigade that appeared in the Books of Magic mini series. The house ad was for Mister E mini series that debuted after the Books of Magic and explored Mister E's origin. To be honest, I didn't know that Mister E was an established DC character having previously appeared in House of Secrets and I do not remember reading the mini, but I remember the house ad! Lol. I've seen a few of those House of Secrets covers with Mister E in them and they do look interesting but still I have never read them. 1991's Mister E house ad "In the Country of the Blind...Madness is King" by artist John K Snyder III. The mystery of Mister E can only be solved by the google machine. After being a mentor in Books of Magic, this mystic was going to get his own series like Constantine. John K Snyder III carries out the house ad to make that series cool and make the audience gasp when they buy the first issue of Mister E. I never bought it, so he is still a mystery to me.

I was still collecting and reading whe nthis came out, but I have to be honest, I don't remember this at all, so that's the real Mystery! Looks cool though with the space background, and that "In the Country of the Blind...Madness is King" tagline is fantastic. Oh, and let me just say that I've always thought about those JLE houese ads since I sold them to you. Out of the countless pieces of art I've sold over the decades, those are two if the few I often wished I still had!
