DescriptionFifth in the series - just imagine that, in 1960, Martin Goodman decides that comics have no future and closes Marvel down, forcing Lee and Kirby to seek work at National. And what if, after a couple of years producing back-up science fiction, war and monster stories for DC's anthologies, editor Murray Boltinoff (unsatisfied with the initial submission from Arnold Drake and Bruno Premiani) asks Stan and Jack to see if they can do anything with the idea of the Doom Patrol? This time, a spotlight on Robotman (though also featuring Elasti-Girl) - and the villainous General Immortus returns. I have plans for both Elasti-Girl and Negative Man (absent this time) to get their own spotlights in future - but next issue, the full team return - along with Beast Boy! A surprise super-hero-guest-star! And an extraterrestrial villain ... but probably not the one you might be thinking of! I should at this point also say that my criteria for source covers is twofold - the cover must be drawn by Kirby, although it can be inked by anyone, and the interior must be written or plotted by Stan, with pencils or full art by Jack. In this instance, Stan plotted and "R. Berns" (Robert Bernstein) scripted, while Dick Ayers inked Jack's pencils insude the book. Social/Sharing |

Can't go wrong with the Marvel Universe building Jack Kirby cover layout! Baskerville does an outstanding job filling it in with more advanced tight details, but he knows the attention remains on the powerful center image.

Thanks! There are several more on my to-do list - hopefully at least one more before the end of the year.
