Very nice, but it looks from the artist's note as though this was actually based on an Astro City cover (I think issue #1 of the DC run - https://www.dc.com/comics/astro-city-2013/astro-city-1 - rather than the issue #2 they've written) as opposed to the B&B cover.
I almost hate to nitpick such a fantastic piece of art, but it was the cover of Amazing Heroes #3, not #4.
Very nice, but it's not a reinterpretation of an Invaders cover at all - it'd be for either Marvel Two-In-One Annual #1 or MTIO #20, both of which featured the Thing and the Liberty Legion (and, as depicted here, the villainous Master Man).
Thanks! There's one more out with an artist right now, another being sorted with a different artist at the end of this week, and several more in the planning stage.
It's a great cover - but the fact that Stephen has signed it "after Alan Davis" makes me pretty confident that it *wasn't* based on the Kubert Batman cover indicated...
Thanks!
Since Kamikaze was clearly Roy Thomas' villainous nod-and-wink to Bulletman, I couldn't resist having the two face off against each other.
Love this one - particularly Krypto sort-of doubling for Tom Thumb!
That's INSANE!
... in a good way, obviously.
Errr ... pretty confident that's not by Stehen Baskerville, since that's not his signature.
Brilliant work - but again, this one seems to be by Ian Richardson rather than Ricardo Silva...
Technical nitpick - based on the signature, this is by Ian Rchardson, not Ricardo Silva...
This is a complete guess, but since the All-Stars seem to be battling a "feathered serpent", I wonder if this might have been a tryout piece by Adrian, misinterpreting something from Roy Thomas or Len Wein about the content of issue #6 (?)
Nice! I'm assuming that's the Time Trapper dealing the cards?
Oh yes! This would fit in so well with Mort's regular recycling of the "Legionnaires become infants" plot!
Great work from Stephen!
I'm not sure I'll make it that far, but I have reasonably firm plans to get to issue #100.
Multiple years late -- it *was* published, in Worlds Finest #322, and very possibly other places.
Wow! That is absolutely spectacular!
Colour me extremely jealous!
Definitely an all-"Star" piece!
Interesting that the inset figures were (presumably) statted in for the final cover. Regardless, it's spectacular - and a great homage to the cover of All-Star Squadron #1!
Now there's a crossover I never expected to see!
Spectacular!
The Fraims always work wonders with Golden Age material, and this is a brilliant example!
I have to say I hadn't spotted it until recently (well, last year) - some of the reprint material has covers which are just ripe for adapting!
This was originally intended as the splash page to All-Star Comics #70 - see here: http://comicartads.com/content/original-art-gallery-mitch-itkowitz-1978 and then click on the "inside front cover" link for full details - and I believe was then later revamped for use as the cover of Amazing Heroes #3.
Oh, that's superb! Love it!
Forgot to say - this is the 100th cover in the Continuation Project (!)
Phenomenal!
Colour me *extremely* jealous!
No - I give the artists all the character substitutions, and I've had the basic plot outline for all of these in my head for years, but they don't see the plot in advance.
Glad I took a second look at this - I was absolutely *convinced* you'd based this on the Tagak The Leopard Lord debut issue (DD #72) until I paid attention to what the actual source was...
It's lucky I picked three heroes who *could* be identifed from behind, really... ;)
Thanks.
Actually it's FDR's fourth appearance (unless I've forgotten one) on these covers - he also appears on issue #69, in silhouette, as well as issues #110 and Annual #8.
No Dr Mid-Nite yet - he'll be in a three-part story, sometime in the next year or so.
Tremendous! Absolutely loved Star Hunters back in the 70s...
Antonio Stefanacci! Blimey, that *is* obscure!
Always available - at very reasonable rates!
I've only just spotted that the logo on this and previous issues of the current run is homaging that used on LSH #61 (the second part of the Magic Wars storyline), with the lettering transforming into a more "magical" look, complete with the little dragon.
Nice touch!
Tremendous use of an obscure source - there's gold to be mined from these Bronze Age DC horror covers!
Ha! If only that were true...
Tremendous work by Chris - and an incredibly eclectic selection of characters. Looking forward to what's coming!
Thanks! There are several more on my to-do list - hopefully at least one more before the end of the year.
I'd forgotten that - it's on my shelf but I can only see the spine from where I'm sitting...
It's not Johnny's most common logo, but I took it from the JQ story in More Fun Comics #79 (though it did appear in a few other issues as well).
Yep - a great source cover and a fantastic reinterpretation.
