Description

Golden's work in Star Wars #38 was originally an inventory art/story. It has become one of the popular classic Marvel issues due to Golden's gorgeously rendered artwork. Issue #38 was supposed to be the start of The Empire Strikes Back adaptation, but Marvel pushed the issue back a month for distribution reasons and Golden�s one and only Star Wars fill-in issue took its place. This page is just jam-packed with action and fantastic technical details that only Golden can pull off. I especially love the middle panel with the Tie-Fighter pilot inside the cockpit, in fast pursuit of Luke�s ship. You can see the influence from one of the early Star Wars production paintings by concept artist Ralph McQuarrie.

It wasn't popular with all kids: when I read this issue, I HATED it. I didn't think the stars looked like they were supposed to, I didn't think the ships looked like they were supposed to, etc. Now, many years later, it's one of my favorite stories, but back then all I was was upset that I didn't get the promised adaption of "Empire Strikes Back" in that issue. Congrats on getting a great piece of artwork!
