I don't mind admitting that I was in the exact same boat as you were in, Heidjer. When Mike told me he would be doing Swamp Thing next, I wasn't excited. Oh sure, I was well aware that it was a perfect character and setting for his shadow heavy, textural approach to illustrating, but I just wanted him on a book that I would also be in the mood to read and after Alan Moore, I just never thought anything could compare. But then I read the 2 short stories in the Halloween Spectacular followed by the 2 part Future State story and I was completely sold! I love the art, of course, but I also have no problem making comparisons between this new run and Moore's run a generation ago, because the writing on this one is absolutely up there. There are times we don't need to go looking for new titles to read, because sometimes the stories have a way of finding us. Glad you chose to pick up this innovatively designed dps!
