Descriptionhere's the scenerario it's megacon and it's my first year truly there as an art collector. one of the names at the top of my list is Frank cho. i would say the top of my list but people at the comic shop kept telling me dude frank cho dosn't do sketches. anyway i make my way over to his booth and he's not there. i go around to other booths i come back and frank is there and there are only 4 people in line. i was like whoo hoo. when i get to frank i thank him for liberty meadows i love it, i buy two sketch books(one for me and one for tony). and i ask if he's doing commsions. frank says not at the booth. he will be doing sketches for the actor fundraiser later in the day. i say my thanks and go check the actor booth. it says frank will be doing sketches starting at 2:00 (i don't remember the exact time) i figure i get there by 1:00 i'll be ok. i get there and there is a line of 12 people in front of me. clearly i underestimated the people who wanted cho sketches. they cap the line 2 people after me when the drawing starts. thank you lord i'm in. sketching starts we all start talking in line about how excited we are. about 25 minutes go by and we notice the line hasn't moved. Frank was still on his first sketch. once we see the finished product all of us in line are in awe a beautiful tarzan sketch that would make you drool. we start to get worried maybe he won't have time to do our sketches. this is when things get wierd. some loud mouthed guy gets out of line goes to frank and says hey we've been standing in line this whole time you gonna do our sketches too. i have to admit i felt bad for frank at this point. he has a line of about 12 people with different expressions from hopefull to angry. he then tells the helper to take the names and what everyone wanted drawn and he will see what he can do. i leave thinking we'll there went my chance for a frank cho. the next day i meet the guy who was in the back of the line with me he asked me if i checked the booth. i said no he said go check if your sketch is done i go to the actor booth give them my name and they pull this beauty out. my jaw drops. i'm stunned. i give them the money and run over to frank cho to thank him for the sketch. i tell him i know he didn't have to draw the sketch but i really did appreciate it. so then i hear that later on in the convention the loudmouthed guy went back to frank and threw the sketch on his table and asked are going to finish this. @$$hole he didn't have to do the sketch at all you should be happy you got something. i always hear that frank puts alot of himself in the characters he draws we'll if you see franks expression in the art i think that's how he felt when he was drawing my sketch. thanks frankSocial/Sharing |

Nice sketch and nice summary of the situation. I was the first peoson in line and the recipiant on the Tarzan "sketch". I started the line about 3 hours before Frank was posted to be at the booth. I was starting to feel bad for everyone else in line about 30 min. into the session when he was still working on my peice and when he was done I think I dropped 3 or 4 times the donation ACTOR was requesting in the bucket. Every year I try to donate to ACTOR in some way, I'm just happy some of these great artists donate their time also.

Wow, that's cool. I was at the show too and Frank showed me his Cho piece the day after he got it. I heard a rumor that Cho will not be returning to Megacon because of that @$$hole. Also, I heard another rumor that the @$$hole put the piece on eBay the very next day. I was able to get Cho to do a little doodle of Ralph in my University2 book. He was a little reluctant but I begged and swore to him that this was for me and I wouldn't put it on eBay. I'll scan it and post in my gallery...

Beautiful sketch, but it's terrible to hear how belligerent that person was. Thanks for sharing your experience.
