Description

This was my first commission ever. My first Sdcc and I was just awestruck. I took a sketchbook and got some great sketches. But walking down artist alley I saw gene colan and pretty much lost my shit. I talked to him and his wife and she pretty much led the conversation. There were a bunch of really rough 17 x 11 prelim sketches.
This one caught my eye. The deal was you paid now and Gene would finish it up and mail it to you. I didn’t have the $300 so I ran to the ATM. A) the line was super long. B)there was like a $7 atm fee. Luckily I toughed it out. I was given a receipt and a phone number to call if I got nervous. A few weeks later I got this rolled up in a priority mail box. Luckily it didn’t get crushed or anything. I don’t think I ever met him again but I did get another commission from him a few years later

Yeah, I remember there was an option to get it inked by Guiterrez too. He added an extra figure and cool backgrounds to make these tell a story. Pretty impressive as Gene had vision issues during these later years.
