DescriptionBack in 2008 I bought a page of art off eBay. In conversation with the seller, I asked if he had any Keown Hulk art. He did. Huzzah! He shared a scan. I liked the page, I liked the price, and so I bought that too. When the package came, it was empty. No art at all. The seller said it must have been stolen in transit, how foolish of him to have declared the value. I should pursue an insurance claim to get my money back.I lost sleep, this was not cool and, at the time, a major purchase for me (the biggest, or 2nd biggest in total funds spent). I reached out to the comic art community, and got a shocking message from Felix Lu to let me know that one of the pieces I bought was known to him, and in a “black hole” collection, so this was a scam. It wasn’t easy, but with the help of Felix, I actually, and shockingly got my money back so was made whole. YAY! Thanks again Felix! Cut to the last Heritage Sunday auction and the bonus Keown Hulk page was listed in in. Huzzah! And ouch, cause while I knew it was a legit auction, I knew it was going to cost me more than the price I would have paid almost 10 years ago…and indeed, it did. But I’m happy to finally have it! Congrats Simon, the other hidden message here is that art sometimes shakes loose from a black hole collection

Fun piece, and a kooky story to go with. Glad to hear it ended up in the collection it belonged in all along. And not to get overly pedantic with the Skrull, but wouldn't Hulk's home technically be "in the stars" as well? It's all a matter of perspective after all. :)

What a great page and back-story. I love hearing a good story about art finding it’s way home to the “right” collector. Congrats and I hope you can add the other page at some point as well!

Wow, I'd forgotten about this! Amazing that this page showed up, and you had a real chance this time to get it. Congrats! I remember how this went down. The scammer was in France. Someone else had recently tried to scam me on eBay, who was also from France. So I had an idea of how to deal with it. I think also why I felt especially aggrieved for you...I could relate! One thing I did, was look the guy up via French white pages (yes, they've got them there, too!). And I called him. His MOM picked up. She handed the phone over to him. I told him he'd better return the money, or I'd tell his mom. So that's how Simon got his money back. LOL!

I'm sure Simon would still have rather gotten the page back then, but recovering anything from a scam (especially an international one) is still a win. At least now I know who to call if I ever find myself in a similar bind. Felix the Super Sleuth Scam Buster! (French White Pages, who would've thought.....)

Great battle page! Keown's known by many for his pinup-y stuff, and rightly so, but he's no slouch on the storytelling front, especially when it comes to action. Witness exhibit A! Also LOVE the Super Skrull. Big congrats!
