Description

Harold Gray (1894�1968) is of course most well-known the fantastic Little Orphan Annie, but as some of you might know, Gray sent out wonderful Christmas cards every year for decades. Those are highly sought after by collectors, especially the early cards, which have proved to be rarer. I�m very pleased to be able to offer a super-scarce Harold Gray Christmas card, one that pre-dates Little Orphan Annie! This card is from 1921, with the front presented as a large ace of hearts playing card. The small hearts under the A read, �Heartiest Christmas Greetings� and �Here�s One Off the Bottom. May it Bring You Luck�. The large heart in the middle has the following message: �Happily Tho Married, We�re Wishing You Too the Merriest Christmas You Ever Yet Knew. Our Heart�s (sic) in This Greeting. We�re Sending to You. May Yor Joy at Yuletide Last All the Year Through. From Doris and Harold Gray. Lombard, Illinois�. The back is signed in Gray�s hand, �To Uncle Harry from Doris and Harold.� Doris Gray died just a few years later, towards the end of 1925. She never got to fully revel in the success of her husband�s creation. The card measures 5��x 4� and is in Fine condition. You can see two spots on the front of the card, with light handling marks on both sides. This is the only 1921 Harold Gray Christmas card I have ever seen. I believe it to be exceedingly scarce. This particular card sold at Hake�s in 2008 for $115.00. I�m pleased to be able to offer it for $85.00 + 9.00 first class shipping. The card comes with the original Hake�s COA. SOLD!
