DescriptionThis page is from the story "The Lost Soul of Adam Van Helsing." The 1979 issue (#82) was among the last full-story artwork that Jose Gonzalez would accomplish on the Warren-era Vampirella title. He would only contribute interior story artwork on a few final issues starting in 1982, three years after inking this piece. Obviously he was still active in drawing frontispieces and cover art, but not interior story artwork. The artwork measures 19" x 13" and is rendered in marker and ink pen.Social/Sharing |

Beautiful shots of Vampirella and then lots of drawing of hands on this page.

hello, this page was drawn by Victor Ramos
I understand your feeling that this might be by the hand of another artist. Your Gonzalez collection is indeed impressive. However, the Grand Comic Database gives art attribution to Pepe. And the title page of the actual published story has all artwork attributed to Jose Gonzalez (see my newly attached photos of real #82 Vampirella magazine). So direct proof has been offered here of the correct attribution. I have also looked at dozens of Gonzalez images and believe this is consistent with his style in 1979. If you have other evidence to the contrary, you should present it instead of making baseless accusations.

Great page! I liked Jose's marker pages. Just slight correction on your description---although Jose didn't do many later issue Vampi stories, I know he did at least one (Vampi 108-Return of the Starbeast). He may have done a few more---but I would have to check to be sure. His later stories were back to pen and ink as opposed to marker---but they were not like his original ink wash stories, for which he was made famous. But, the splash from 108 is one of his best---and Vampi was drawn nude to boot!
You are correct. I was going from my memory which is not always 100% reliable. In researching the subject further, Wikipedia has conflicting information that says he did interior artwork on the last six issues, while simultaneously saying he only did interiors work on issues 106 & 108. Thanks for the clarification! You have some beautiful artwork in your collection.
