DescriptionThe final issue of the volume of Darth Vader. In the first issue of the series, Vader slaughters an entire village of Tusken Raiders as he awaits the bounty hunters Boba Fett and Black Krrsantan. In the epilogue to the final issue, we learn that one Tusken Raider survived and witnessed the slaughter of his tribe from a hiding place atop a sand dune overlooking his village. After Vader departs Tatooine in his ship, the Tusken Raider flees into the desert. As night falls over the Jundland Wastes, he lights a small fire to keep safe from the cold. A neighboring tribe traveling on Bantha back discovers him. He leads the tribe's shaman back to the lifeless village and tells him of the massacre. Later, as dawn approaches, the shaman retells the story of the village massacre to his tribe by fireside. He then orders the tribesmen to gather the dead to be burned. They build a giant wicker man resembling Darth Vader, tying the lone survivor of the village massacre to a stake above the piles of carcasses, and sets the entire display on fire. As the dead villagers and the lone survivor burn, the tribe bows down in awe before the funeral pyre. Here on page 9 the Tuskens build the pyre and gather the survivor to head for the stake. This pre-dates the insights to Tusken life later shown in The Book of Boba Fett. Additional images show the printed page and the final page of the story. Social/Sharing |

Did you see slaughter
The 21st night of September?
Darth was cutting down all Tusken Raiders
While hatin' the sand always
Light saber swinging
And the Darth Vader voice was chilling
Had the ground and the height, massacre
How his hand swept the lives away, oh, yeah
Hey, hey, hey
Ba-dee-ya, say, do you Darth Vader?
Ba-dee-ya, drawin' Max Fiumara
Ba-dee-ya, gonna make the Jedi pay
Ba-du-da, ba-du-da, ba-du-da, ba-du
Ba-du-da, ba-du, ba-du-da, ba-du
Ba-du-da, ba-du, ba-du-da

It's the same first part of the song. It's the 21st of September and it'll be stuck in my head all day!

Wow, it's such a shocking sight to see those Tusken Raiders appearing to be slaughtered, especially in the 2nd and second to last panels. The art is particularly gorgeous as well!

Max really was a good fit for the texture and detail on their desert robes. Was very pleased to find these out in the wild and available from Mark over at Splashpage.

Crazy story. Note to self... If you ever find yourself apart of a Tusken Raider cosplay clan and they are slaughtered, make sure to change into your Ewok outfit. Great artwork for what seems to be a very powerful story.

Well...this is awesome! How did I miss this one?
I said the same thing when I just happened to bump into a couple of the pages over on Mark Hay's site. How could I resist? I hear resistance is futile.
