DescriptionA Black Suit Spider-Man piece by Ron Frenz... WooooHoooo!I am sure his published pieces from ASM #252+ are all out of my budget. So to be able to nab something like this, that has the look & feel of a cover, is super cool in my book. And Firelord looks badass too! X-Men #105 was the first "old" comic I bought as a kid/new collector and where I first saw Firelord. I would periodically grab various titles he appeared in from then on, eventually coming across ASM #s 269-270 somewhere. Those were my first Black Costume issues and it all snowballed from there. As a kicker, the piece was also signed by Stan Lee at some point. I know his signature is everywhere but this is the first thing I own that was signed by him. While I'm generally not an autograph guy, it is a pretty neat bonus feature (especially since he didn’t sign the art, which you see a lot). I had zero expectations of actually winning this auction but am so happy it worked out that I did. Really digging this piece, on multiple levels. Social/Sharing |

Big nostaglia points being scored all over this one. Tight Frenz pencils. The properly done autographs is a bonus.

I was a previous owner, of this steller piece, some time ago. Although I had to
give it up, I'm sure glad to see it went to someone who appreciates as much as
I did. (*and still do*) This 2-part battle against Firelord is my favorite on the Ron Frenz's
run on the title. I've often said that "Amazing Spider-Man"#269-270 is like a
compannion piece to "Amazing Spider-Man"#229-230 where he takes on the Juggernaut.
Both stories show Spidey taking on a foe way beyond his means. And in both instances it's
not only his unique powers, but Spider-Man's courage, ingenuity, perseverance, and ultimate
sense of responsibilty that aid him in winning against such impossible odds. Anyway, a big
congrats on winning something so special and iconic.
p.s. Don't be me. Don't ever give this up. It's way too special.

So true, both of those stories were awesome. And no plans to let this one go but you never know. I do want to obtain an ASM cover eventually, so anything might be available as trade on that day.

The pencils on this are so detailed they might as well be inks. A stunner by Frenz for sure. Huge congrats!

Wow! Explosive Amazing Spider-Man cover by Ron Frenz--How cool is that? Love this image of Firelord bursting through the floor and surprising Black Suit Spider-Man. Love Frenz's incredibly tight pencils show not only the figures of Firelord and Spidey, but the shadows on their respective costumes. The explosions are tightly rendered as well. This pencil is so exquistely detailed, you hardly need an inker. Absolutely stunning on every level! Great pick-up!
