DescriptionPublished 1977.Enter the Night Flyer. Second page of his appearance. A contract killer, the Night Flyer was created by Jack Kirby. Earlier tonight on Rubén DaCollector'sYou Tube Channel, the concept of a placeholder page was talked about. A placeholder page is one that you pick up while waiting for a better page from a particular artist, series or character. The problem with a placeholder page is that it may absorb some of the funds that you may need to get that better example and it may not be easy to quickly sell off the placeholder in order to obtain the needed funds. Well this was my placeholder Kirby page. Once I became serious about collecting comic art, I found Kirby pages difficult to obtain. They would show up on websites and be quickly sold or they would be priced beyond my reach. So I settled for this one as my first Kirby page. A page from Captain America with no Captain America and with not even a classic villain. But it was distinctly Kirby and that was good enough for me. I have obtained a couple better Kirby pages since then and I came close to selling this one but it has grown on me and I never did. Social/Sharing |

I will say, as far as placeholders go, this is a very strong one. Sure, there's no Cap on the page, but when a placeholder is replete with images of any other character, even a lower tier character like Night Flyer, it really makes up for the absence of Cap in a pretty big way. Especially here, where the character design is so in keeping with the familiar 4th World character designs, as at first glance it actually feels like it IS a page from one of the 4th World titles. So in my view, while this may indeed be a placeholder, it is of as high a quality as any placeholder can be.Therefore, I'm not at all surprised that you hung onto it!

I see how this could be a placeholder page - but only from the character perspective! The page is great and inking also - nice pickup!

No cap but visually stunning . The camera angle of each panel is testament to Kirby's genius

Super, super cool. I also picked up a page from this issue in the last couple of months (which also has no Cap on it lol). One of the first comics I ever owned and it's wonderful to see pages surface from this issue!
