DescriptionThere are still a couple more gifts to acknowledge but after seeing that it is Elvin's birthday today, I decided to call an audible and post this magnificent illustration.I picked this up via a Next Comic Art stream on the CAL youtube channel, and because I am extremely parsimonious, I asked Jiggy to hold it and bring it with him to SDCC. Thanks Jiggy! There is some art that is compelling as a thumbnail - this does not fall into that category, and I think that's why it was not immediately snapped up during the show. The details and complexity of the composition demand attention, and a large, clear view. The more I deciphered the image, the more my mind was blown. Elvin really leveled up with this piece. This particular moment in the Sandman odyssey, tying in the demons of Hell, their master Morningstar, and the Key to Hell was always a favorite of mine. I have another piece in which the artist also chose to explore this moment, and the result is equally tremendous. The key is lined in silver metallic ink, and this aspect of Morpheus in full battle gear with cloak a cloackin' is simply dynamite. The depictions of Azazel throughout are absolutely terrifying. wow, great piece!!! have to see it enlarged to catch all the great details for sure, which is probably even better looking at it in person.
Also, I had to look up the definition of parsimonious, nice.

Have to take a step back and do a double take to take everything in...and I dig that about the piece. Excellent composition melding the imagery, and killer grey tone work as well. Congrats, man!

They said it was round at the start of a show
There were gasps all around
It then actually sold
In the darkness and gold with the ink on the key
A work that’s now claimed
And no memories but these
Teeth against mandibles
Sheets bristol are best
Terrifying curses whispering overhead
Call the style fire
Elvin’s style attacks
I don't know of Ching before that
Traveling to the artshows
Keeping all the mood
Claiming what I needed
Working when I could
Keeping art of courage
Foolish as it seems
At night all alone in my Dreams
In my Dream
Shadows call
There's a light Azazel in it all
Ink of dreams fade away
But I know it all will come back
One day
