DescriptionA fun piece inspired by an illustration Steve drew some years ago entitled "Honeymoon's Over." It was the first Mannion example I had been exposed to and ultimately what made me begin following his work. The way he was able to communicate a story with the absence of dialogue was brilliant. Not to mention the master pencil work he used to tell that story. After browsing his various works from other collectors on CAF, I knew I wanted my own..After a few conversations, Steve fired on all cylinders. The composition makes your eyes flow from top to bottom. I think this really adds to the effect that Jameson is looking DOWN on Peter. I also love how he's drawn as a mountain in comparison to tiny Pete. While Jameson's actions are sometimes villainous, he's rarely ever DRAWN like one. It's hard to imagine Spidey coming out of a battle versus this version of J.J.J, unscathed. All in all, I'm very happy with the end result. This certainly won't be the last you see of Steve in my gallery! Social/Sharing |

It's hard to top when Mannion is inspired! Certain pieces like this have the fine pencils and a clever idea that carries the creative momentum all the way through. For a minute, you'd thing JJJ turned into the Hulk.

The mere possibility of a happy Spider-Man makes Jonah Hulk out

So much to appreciate with this one. I love the traditional superhero pinup contrasted with one of Steve's roided out monster types. Add the Mannion humor and you have a winner, all in pencil.

Fabulous commission of J. Jonah Jameson as an enraged monster screaming at poor Peter Parker. Drawn by the marvelous Steve Mannion, it depicts Jameson as some kind of gamma-ray infected creature, with a massively bulked up arms, a thick vein-streaked neck and the kind of rage that drives Bruce Banner to change into the Hulk. And what's got him so upset? A picture of Spider-Man getting hugged by the Black Cat! Guess it wasn't page one material. Hilarious commission, congrats!

The Incredible JJJ! It's clear we wouldn't like this guy when he's angry. Love the play here on the characters, and the pure pencil rendering is next level. Congrats!

As always, gorgeous pencils by Steve. Love that giant JJJ, especially those Hulk-like hands and arms. The image makes me think of something you might see in a thought balloon over Peter's head while he's getting chewed out yet again by Jonah. Congrats on a great Mannion example.
