Description

A truly outstanding example of the classic Secret Agent Corrigan spy comic strip, by one of the greatest illustrators in the history of the medium, the brilliant Al Williamson. Originally begun as Secret Agent X-9 by legendary Flash Gordon artist Alex Raymond (another one of the many characters Williamson would work on), the strip became Secret Agent Corrigan, and Williamson had one of the great runs on the strip. Excellent examples have disappeared into collections, and this is certainly as good an example as you're going to find, with perfect straight-on character depictions in the large front panel. The piece is done on art board measuring approximately 20 1/2" by 7". There is a little bit of minor staining, and also please note some of the zipatone shading film in the last panel has lifted up, as the glue has dried up over time. This does not really show in the scan, since it was pressed down on the scanner. It could probably be fixed with re-application of some archival glue but I have left as-is. This is a truly spectacular example by one of the legendary masters of comic art. Williamson was both friends and colleagues with Frank Frazetta, and worked on everything from Weird Science and Weird Fantasy at EC Comics to Spiderman at Marvel Comics, and so many other things in between. This is a stunning example from one of Williamson's best-remembered works.

Fabulous strip by Al Williamson! Love the close-up of the two lead characters followed by the wide shot of the boat leaving the wharf. Williamson knew how to give strips a visual dynamic that kept it visually arresting. Great pick-up!
