DescriptionNew commission: the third issue of my Golden Age Team-Up Project commission series - The Brave And The Bold #203, pairing the Golden Age Batman with The Whip. Artwork by Bambos Georgiou, and adapted from the Zeck/Beatty cover to Captain America #282.1942 - and after Batman decodes some of the papers he'd rescued from Baron Blitzkrieg's hideout in the last issue, he suspects that the Axis intends to use migrant workers as part of their sabotage efforts. Heading for a district on the outskirts of Gotham, which houses a large Mexican population who work in the defence industry, he sees a returning worker snatched from the streets by Nazi sympathisers. Tailing them to a derelict building, he finds that it conceals a hi-tech laboratory, and the worker is being strapped into a device to brainwash him into committing sabotage. Before Batman can intervene, however, Mexican-American hero The Whip bursts in to rescue the captive! The Whip quickly disposes of the kidnappers, but is surprised by the sudden appearance of Kung, The Assassin Of A Thousand Claws! Although the hero fights valiantly, the Japanese villain's martial arts skills give him the upper hand, and he sets out to strangle Rod Gaynor with his signature whip. Now Batman leaps into action, freeing the Whip - but Kung uses his power to transform into animals to tackle the twin heroes, in the form of a tiger, a rhino, and even a giant bat! As the two heroes start to fight back, Axis henchmen set a cohort of brainwashed workers free to attack them - and, having to pull their punches, by the time their opponents are subdued, Kung and his allies have fled. Batman destroys the brainwashing device - having discovered the plans for the machine - but the battle to foil the Axis saboteurs goes on. Continued - next issue! I wanted to take advantage of the 1940s B&B idea to make use of some of the more obscure wartime heroes, and the Whip certainly fits that bill. The next couple of issues will feature somewhat better-known co-stars, but if all goes to plan then #206 should see another less-recognised hero teaming with Batman... Social/Sharing |

I am enjoying this "New Series"
Cheers. Luckily I'm enjoying doing it, so expect them to continue for a bit (plus more All-Star Squadron covers as well).

These are really fun covers. The world needs a Golden Age Batman team-up book!
