DescriptionMy first new art post of 2024! This piece was a bit of a journey to get but Dave ultimately came through and delivered big time! I'm still in awe every time I look at this piece. In 2020 I had the opportunity to create a 56 page anthology comic that included several short stories and illustrations from some wonderfully talented artists, which was all inspired by and based on a record my band, Jack The Radio released the same year. The anthology was published by A Wave Blue World out of New York. After the release of the anthology I had plans to release smaller format music-comics complete with articles, interviews, illustrations, and a short comic on an annual basis. I learned a lot doing the first issue in 2021. It was a very different format than the anthology and I was still figuring out what I wanted it to be, so by the time I started on issue 2 I knew I wanted it expand beyond just the band. I wanted it to not only highlight the artists I wanted to highlight writers, creators, publishers, and musicians who have some kind of crossover between the comics and music worlds. Still here? That brings me to this piece. Shortly after the release of the anthology in 2020 I started making a list of artists to connect with. I was a fan of Dave Taylor's work and the edge his art has. I also knew Dave played drums and thought he might be into the project. My direction was, "I love your architectural type of work with buildings or rocks. Would you be interested in doing something like a futuristic city scene with maybe inspiration from Dredd and Blade Runner with neon type signs and Jack walking through with the suit and hat and maybe a guitar on his back? Maybe a little New Orleans meets Japan with sci-fi elements like personified animals/people in the background. Totally open to ideas, changes, talking more." Dave brought so much life to the JTR world, which has been truly inspiring. Drawn in 2020 in pencil and ink with digital color. Delivered in 2021 with a little help from the internet. Published in 2021 and 2022. Since it was a double spread the last challenge was figuring out the best way to use the art. It was published as a black and white interior spread in the first issue of the music-comic and ultimately the full color front cover for issue two. I'm still hoping to use the art in the future perhaps on a skateboard deck or picture disc vinyl if the opportunity presents itself. Social/Sharing |

Wow George! It looks like the journey paid off big time! Such a beautiful and intricate scene from the fantastic world of Jack the Radio. I'll have to revisit this one multiple times to try to soak it all in.

The direction and idea that you gave Dave for this piece is not only a great one, but it was executed wonderfully by him. The amount of detail is staggering. Awesome to see the piece in color as well. Would be great to see this used again as you mention on anything from decks to shirts. I think a full color print could even be justified. JTR OA FTW!!

It feels like a combo between a Japanese crosswalk (and the other elements you were shooting for), but also has a flavor of Aztec architecture as well. Thank you for sharing the behind the scenes process involved to make this happen!

While I am not familiar with Dave Taylor, he might possibly be related to Geoff Darrow! Very cool piece!!

Beautiful composition for a cross section of the heart of a megalopolis! All the weird people and things each having a story of their own you can imagine! In the center of it all, our hero walks across in the same manner as he would in the desert plains day or night carrying a six string to leave his mark upon the world.

Yowza! This is the coolest cover art I've seen since the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's lonely Hearts Club Band. Honestly, where else are you going to see a man with a skull head and a fedora carrying a guitar, a woman with the head of a deer, a man flying with a jet pack being chased by a feral cat, a monkey-headed delivery man, a floating Mayan statue, a short ET in an astronaut suit, a herd of floating snakes...I could go on and on but you get the idea. Congratulations on a totally bonkers commission!

Man, he went to town. So much poured into this. And I'm sure you pore over lots :) You gave him some real direction and he was able to incorporate all that into an uber unique piece. So many characters, objects, images...all exquisitely composed. And SO many lines! A true labor of love, no doubt. Big congrats, George!
