I love the Lobster, and this works so well! Just look at how little white or negative space there is that makes up the character. This piece does everything but lurk in the shadows though. Excellent!

From the way he filled in the black field, it looks like he did draw in the right side outline before deciding to enshroud it in shadows.

I think so, too - Tim Sale did a sketch for me once in which he drew in the character's entire body, but then covered it with an ink wash. He said he needed to see the whole body to get the feel for the final sketch!
