Descriptiona spread from batman: dark victory. here's the scene when robin loses his parents. even in the original story, it's a quiet, wordless scene befitting the moment. but it speaks volumes. plus, love the line of action from the tent pole that stretches down to a standing figure of bruce wayne connecting the duo.Social/Sharing |

This is a stunning piece that I had a shot at back in the day. Still regret not picking it up since I have the page before and the spread after. Congrats on having this splendid piece of storytelling in your collection.

Yowza, Ken - the mastery of Tim Sale is on full display here: a stunning, definitive example of what can be done with black and white (and a very compelling reason to publish Tim's books uncolored :) ). The play of shadow and light on the tent pole, and the texture that the ropes above and bleachers full of people below add to the central component of the circus itself is simply breathtaking. Then the direct "line" of the tent pole continuing down "through" Bruce, moving your eye exactly where the storytellers intend... good grief. And I can't fathom how a piece with so much life and energy in it can feel so STILL. Nothing is moving here - time is absolutely frozen. Incredible piece, Ken - way more impressive than a standard "action spread" (if you ask me). Here, you get to see the artist really cut loose and WORK. Mega-congrats!
