Description

I don't know the origins of this piece, but I can share what I know. Back in 1981 when I was in high school, a friend of mine moved to Maine for a year. I grabbed him the poster for the grand opening of Forbidden Planet in NYC and mailed it to him since I figured he'd love to get a surprise in the mail. Fast forward to our 35th high school reunion, and he asks me if I'm still into Doc Savage. I say yes, and he responds that he has a sketch I might like. A few weeks later this Doc Savage art study by Alex Ross arrives in the mail. Wow, right?

Reframed with same matting, but now with a black frame instead of the silver one, with museum glass added.

Seeing that Ross' passion for his youth in the late 70's properties, you can study this and see if there is any influence from the 1975 film. But being that he was 5 and it not being on TV may have tempered that connection until later in his life. The way Ross places the camera at a low angle already shows the ideal and heroic feel he wants to go for in this pencil piece.
